Step-by-Step A0 for Newcomers

Kickstart your students’ English journey with Off2Class’ step-by-step A0 for newcomers.

Learning a new language is like embarking on an exciting journey. Every word you learn is a milestone, and every sentence you form is a destination reached. The joy of expressing oneself in a different tongue is unparalleled. However, this journey can be intimidating, especially for students who have just arrived in English-speaking countries with little to no English. This is where Off2Class steps in with our new lesson series, Step-by-Step A0 for Newcomers.

We are excited to announce the release of this series of lessons designed especially for absolute beginners and others who lack the baseline proficiency to access entry-level materials. These new lessons cover basic English a level below the typical entry point for most courses (for example, WIDA ‘Entering’ or CEFR ‘A1’). We start right at the beginning with the alphabet, numbers, and simple words that describe family, dates, times, and other everyday elements and focus on equipping students with the language skills necessary to operate in a school environment.

These lessons are about practice and building a foundation in English. They feature large numbers of images and structured, repeated tasks so students can follow and progress without an initial English proficiency. We understand the diversity in learning pace and preferences; hence, we’ve designed the series to be flexible. Unlike other lesson series, these lessons do not follow a strict sequence. Instead, teachers can pick lessons based on the specific needs of their students because each lesson makes no assumptions about the students’ proficiency.

The beauty of the new series is in its simplicity and adaptability. You can deliver these lessons in person, online, or in a hybrid model, making them accessible to all, regardless of their location or circumstance. Each lesson comes with extensive audio, full transcripts, and homework review tasks to provide comprehensive learning support. And we haven’t forgotten about our teachers. Full teacher notes are included with easy-to-follow suggested activities, so even educators without ESL training can deliver these lessons confidently. We aim to empower teachers just as much as we strive to enable students.

The new series isn’t just about learning English; it’s about adapting to a new life in an English-speaking country. It’s about providing newcomers with a foundation of English vocabulary they can use to start communicating and to access the world of knowledge waiting for them in the rest of the Off2Class Lesson Library.

In a world that’s constantly on the move, we believe no one should be left behind. This belief has inspired us to create our Step-by-Step A0 for Newcomers series. It is a significant jump towards fulfilling Off2Class’s mission to provide quality ESL education that caters to the unique needs of each student. Join us as we embark on this exciting journey towards an inclusive, empowering, and diverse learning environment.

I’ve been using the A0 Lesson Plans and they are a absolutely amazing resource. However, it would be great if there a way the slides can give more examples for each vowel sound. I think vowel sounds are more difficult than consonents and they take time for students, especially those with a heavy accent to learn. Even if there could be a whole lecture/powerpoints of the vowels sounds taking more time to learn the sounds. That would be so helpful. Off2class is the best teaching resourse/ guide I’ve ever ran across from all my years of teaching. Thank you for all you do!
