Why is it marking the student’s homework wrong when they give the right answers?

For system marked work (i.e. where there is a right or wrong answer, gapfills/true or false/matching/events in order etc…), the system codes the student’s answers in green or orange. If the answer appears in green, it means that the student has provided the same response as provided in the answer key.

However, we understand that students can provide an alternative response that is still correct, so we mark all responses that are not the same as the answer key in orange. 

Orange text does not signify that the answer is incorrect. It means that the teacher needs to pay attention to the student’s answer and decide if the response needs further comment.

We have provided tools (a notepad, a check and an X) that allow you to make comments and help you override the system and make detailed comments on the student’s work.

Keep in mind, for productive skills (e.g. Free Text writing and Speaking exercises), where there is no ‘right or wrong’ answer, there is no ‘green/orange’ coding. You can use the notepad to take up your student’s work (there is a handy ‘input student answer’ button that will ‘suck up’ your student’s writing sample so you can conduct sentence correction in the comments).
