Samantha Fouche: English Tutor and On-Demand Teacher Trainer

Samantha Fouche is an online English tutor, community manager and on-demand Teacher Trainer at Off2Class. She has extensive experience in education and community work: she has been teaching adult literacy for over 30 years, as well as working as a life skills counselor for young people and adults. She qualified as an TEFL teacher in 2016 and has taught ESL online for the past six years.

Supporting ESL teachers across the world

Having used Off2Class for several years, Samantha is a resident expert on the platform. Shortly after starting to use Off2Class, she joined the Off2Class Facebook Group, a community of 10,000 ESL teachers. As a member, Samantha quickly began offering her own advice and sharing expertise. Off2Class recognised her contributions to the community, and since January 2022, she has been managing the group herself. Samantha has cultivated a supportive atmosphere in the group, creating a safe space for ESL teachers to find professional development and peer support.

As a teacher-trainer at Off2Class, Samantha provides more bespoke support for ESL teachers in the USA. Her role involves directly supporting teachers of English Learners in the US educational system. “As a teacher trainer, I’m on hand to help busy EL teachers with questions they have regarding the Off2Class material” she said. “Helping them experience a ‘win’ is my goal!”

Innovative support for students

In July 2022, Samantha played a key role in an innovative new summer program designed to support refugees in Tulsa. She was one of the leading tutors in a supplemental English Language Development program, delivered by Off2Class in partnership with Tulsa Public Schools. Over a period of four weeks, Samantha and other Off2Class tutors provided online tutoring to middle and high school refugee newcomers. The aim of the program was to prepare the newcomer students for the academic year by introducing them to their new academic environment and encouraging language development. Off2Class and Tulsa Public Schools are both committed to a teacher-facilitated approach to instruction, and Samantha provided vital, personalized support to students as an online tutor.

Values-based collaboration

Coming from a career in education and community work, working with Off2Class is Samantha’s first experience i nthe “corporate world”.
